轉眼間我們已有三年沒有舉辦過運動會了,初中同學們或許未曾經歷過葉中運動會的熱鬧,但高中同學卻早已殷切地期待著這個暌違已久的大舞台。從九月開始不少同學已積極準備十月舉行的運動會,由報名、訓練以至上場比賽,每個階段,我都看見同學們以認真的態度參與其中。參賽的同學雖不一定都能獲獎,但除了爭取個人榮譽,他們更在意的是自己所代表的班或社的名譽,所以都咬緊牙關盡力完成比賽,希望可為班社爭取到一分半分,這份精神是值得欣賞的。

 

還記得第一天運動會上令人難忘的一幕。一位參與社際4x400米接力賽的同學,在比賽途中不小心摔倒,他勉力爬起作賽,可惜,沒多久又因體力無法負荷而再次跌倒,並且身上多處受傷。旁觀的我心裡着急,很想盡快扶起同學前往急救站處理傷口,但同學卻以無比頑強的鬥志站了起來,繼續比賽,他堅毅的眼神,彷彿告訴在場的隊友: 「我不會就此放棄的!」他帶著傷痕累累的身軀,最終順利完成賽事。在他衝過終點那一刻,全場報以熱烈的掌聲,大家關注的已不是他的名次,而是欣賞和讚揚他這份「堅毅不屈」的體育精神。

 

第二日下午賽程安排了三千米公開比賽,按傳統,中六級同學會於賽事首圈一起參與「歡樂跑」活動,旨在讓全班同學可以齊齊整整一起參與,於畢業前留下美好回憶。賽前有中六級同學邀請我一起參賽,我當然很想和大家開開心心一起比賽,但考慮到右膝曾有傷患,使我未免有些猶豫和擔憂,但同學的熱情令我抛開顧慮,最終答允。當天艷陽高掛,除了中六級,還有其他各級同學甚至老師參與其中,場面十分熱鬧。在發令起跑後,競爭成績的同學當然步頻加快,很快便絕塵而去,我卻與一眾中六級同學慢慢享受「歡樂跑」,跑進第三圈的時候,參與「歡樂跑」的同學已慢慢退場,在炎熱的天氣下,加上右膝帶來的痛楚,心裏已有多個藉口及理由企圖說服自己減慢腳步,甚至放棄比賽! 但我回想起運動會第一天那位同學「永不放棄」及「堅毅不屈」的精神,使我產生無比的意志堅持下去,當然我亦要感謝沿途為我打氣加油的師生們,我咬緊牙關克服了炎熱的天氣及膝蓋帶來的痛楚,最終以時間約十五分鐘順利完成比賽,保持預期目標。

 

近年,教育局推行價值觀教育,包括十種首要價值觀和態度,其中的「堅毅」精神,很值得大家關注。堅毅精神不僅僅只是堅持,不怕勞苦地做重複的事; 背後支撐的是對自我目標訂立的追求,同時也是一種對自己責任的承擔。隨著社會進步,同學們更需要有堅毅精神和態度,應對社會急速轉變帶來的沖撃。同學們當面對困難的時候,可能也會泛起放棄或逃避的念頭,這時候請大家回想一下自己的人生目標與初心,我寄望同學能懷著永不放棄的堅毅精神,追求及實現自己的夢想,並與大家共勉。

The strength we need

In the blink of an eye, we have not yet held an athletic meet for three years. Junior form students may have never experienced the excitement of the YKN Athletic Meet, but senior form students have long been eagerly looking forward to this long-awaited big stage. Since September, many students have been actively preparing for the athletic meet to be held in October. From registration, training to competition, I have seen students participating in it with a serious attitude at every stage. Although not all the participating students can win the prizes, in addition to striving for personal honors, they are more concerned about the reputation of the class or club they represent, so they grit their teeth and try their best to complete the competition, hoping to win one and a half points for the class and club. This spirit is worth appreciating.

I still remember the unforgettable scene on the first day of the sports meeting. A student who was participating in the 4x400m relay race accidentally fell down during the race. He managed to get up to compete. Unfortunately, he fell again shortly after due to his physical strength being unable to bear the burden, and suffered multiple injuries on his body. As I watched, I felt anxious and wanted to help my student to go to the first aid station to treat the wound as soon as possible, but my student stood up with extremely tenacious fighting spirit and continued the game. His determined eyes seemed to tell his teammates present: "I will not give up just now." "Yes!" With a scarred body, he finally completed the event successfully. The moment he crossed the finish line, the audience gave him warm applause. What everyone paid attention to was no longer his ranking, but appreciation and praise for his "unyielding" sportsmanship.

 

There was a 3,000-metre open race scheduled for the afternoon of the second day. According to tradition, Form 6 students would participate in the "Happy Run" activity together in the first lap of the race. The purpose was to allow the whole class to participate together and stay in the race before graduation so as to make good memories. Before the race, some students from Form 6 invited me to compete together. Of course, I wanted to compete happily with everyone, but considering that I had an injury to my right knee, I was a little hesitant and worried, but the enthusiasm of my classmates made me put it aside. Worried, he finally agreed. The sun was shining brightly that day. In addition to Form 6 students, students from other forms and even teachers participated in the event, making the scene very lively. After starting the race, the students who were competing for results naturally accelerated their pace and quickly left. However, I slowly enjoyed the "Happy Run" with a group of Form 6 students. When I entered the third lap, I participated in the "Happy Run". The students who were running had slowly left the game. In the hot weather and the pain caused by my right knee, I had many excuses and reasons in my mind to try to convince myself to slow down or even give up the race! But I recalled the first day of the sports meeting. The "never give up" and "unyielding" spirit of that student gave me the incomparable will to persevere. Of course, I also wanted to thank the teachers and students who cheered me on along the way. I gritted my teeth and overcame the hot weather. Despite the pain caused by my knees, I finally finished the game successfully in about fifteen minutes, maintaining the expected goal.

 

In recent years, the Education Bureau has promoted values education, which includes ten fundamental values and attitudes. The spirit of "perseverance" among them deserves everyone's attention. Perseverance is not just about perseverance and doing repetitive things without fear of hard work; what supports it is the pursuit of self-goal setting, and it is also a commitment to one's own responsibilities. As society progresses, students need to have a strong spirit and attitude to cope with the impact of rapid social changes. When students face difficulties, they may also have the idea of giving up or escaping. At this time, please think back to your life goals and original intentions. I hope that students can pursue and achieve them with the perseverance in order to actualize their dreams and share them with everyone.
